I like the sort of hardy look of this outfit. I don't know if I'd go so far as to say that it's rugged, but there's a certain sturdiness to this outfit, like someone could wear it to a bunch of places.
Like, "Hey. I'm gonna go do some lumberjack work." (Okay. That was a weird example.)
Maybe it's the boots. I'm not sure, but I like it.

But funny story:
When this person walked by, I immediately saw the cut of the jeans. Not the jeans themselves, the boots, or the orange belt. No, I spotted the fit. (I literally said to myself, "Look! Jeans that look tailored!")
I think this is a testament to what a creeper I've become. (No, really. Whenever I have my camera, my eyes are constantly darting around to find outfits I like. People probably think I'm some sort of sketchy kid just eying everyone up.) But in my defense, I took the picture because I saw the belt afterwards.

So cheers to being a creeper, I guess! Life's better with your eyes open, so I'd rather be labeled a sketch than miss out on all of the pretty things in life.

THE LOOK: Mustard and Paisley

I used to hate prints when I was younger, and paisley was one of the types I hated the most. They just seemed so... garish and furniture-like. I couldn't understand why people wanted to look like walking sofas, so I snubbed them. I have, however, become rather fond of patterns of all sorts as time has passed, which you can probably tell.

I saw this bag and really liked the print on it. It's certainly very unique, isn't it? So when I asked to take a picture, the owner of the backpack told me about the idea behind it -- and it was a very sweet one, indeed!

Who says that people only dress up in the city? Even grocery shopping, some people will dress to impress!

I saw this man while running quick grocery errands for someone one day, and I was very taken with his slacks (and matching cap). Aren't they a rich and beautiful shade of aqua?
This man's name is Aru Cralle, and he creates staves. The staff that he is holding, in fact, is one he created by himself. Impressive, no?

I always love seeing people nurture their sense of personal aesthetics in the everyday world. I think it's easy to dress up when you're going to an event, but I'm always impressed when other people choose to dress up each day.
Every day is a new day with the promises of opportunity and chance, and the world is my stage -- everyone is my audience, and I am likewise part of your audience.
Life's too short to be boring!

A Weekend in New York

So I went to New York, as my previous post pointed out.
It was wonderful to see my friend (whom I had not seen in two years, who is going away for the semester, who is also practically my relative at this point in my life), and I also had a nice time just chilling and milling around New York.

RE: "Street Fashion Photography Is Messing with Me" (Thought Catalog)

Chelsea Fagan from Thought Catalog has beef with street-style photography. The way it's gone, she argues, isn't really suited for the average person -- it's no longer about real, everyday people.
And she makes some good points... And some that I'd like to contest.

Good heavens. You know that academia has your life wrapped around its finger when the brunt of recent photos have been from the same place (namely, the Hill Man's lair). But at least that's where all them coo' kids seem to be, haha.

The subject of this blog post has an interesting story, actually. She once had also been considering running a fashion blog here in Pittsburgh! It's really nifty what one can find out with a little conversation, haha.
Anyways, I like that she looks daring -- the hair, the harem pants (which are hard to photograph well since they look better in motion, grrrrr...), the prints, the boots. She just seems like such an interesting character!

I loved the way the woman's outfit moved when she walked. Sadly, I didn't think to ask her for a walking picture (mainly because my camera doesn't take good freeze-frame pictures unless the lighting is excessively sunny). In any case, I also love the vibrant colors of the little girl.
Overall, a lovely sight for a rainy day.

You know what's funny? I'm actually painfully shy, so it's really hard for me to approach people and ask for a picture. However, people generally turn out a lot more accommodating than one might expect. It's nice that they're so nice, especially since it takes so much time and effort for me to muster up courage, haha. (I'm working on it!)

What can I say? The pop of blue just caught my attention, and I just stopped my bike half a block ahead of her.
At first, I was just looking at the blue top, which caught my eye. It looked like an interesting choice -- royal blue with a light mocha. But then as she neared, I saw the light turquoise cocktail ring and realized how she was pairing it off with the earth tones in her belt and skirt. And then it made sense to me -- the top, the belt, the skirt, the ring.

An interesting match, and it's not one that everyone may like. (Again, you have to focus on the parts that pop out at you -- no one look is ever going to sit well with everyone!) But I appreciate her colorful decisions. We could all use a little bravery sometimes!
